Winter almost to an end.... |
1/30/2012 Fruit Fantasia, Winter fruits are slowly on the decline, but that means succulent spring fruit will soon be ready for harvest! I am really looking forward to the strawberries harvest especially. The weather has been cooperating beautifully. Let’s take a look at this week’s bounty…. Moro Blood Orange- The flavor in this variety is stronger and the aroma more intense than other “blood” varieties. They have a distinctive sweet flavor with a hint of raspberry, can you taste it? Indian Mango- Ripe fruit varies in size and color from, red, yellow, green and orange. Ripe, unpeeled fruit gives off a sweet smell and softens to the touch, much like a peach. Of course eating mangoes as is is an amazing experience, but if you want to take the fruit to a new level make a thick juice/pulp and mix with sugar and milk. Red Grapes- These were a nice surprise to add to the creates! Enjoy, they may not be making an appearance for a while. Pink Lady Apple- Our prized variety, the pink lady has it all looks, taste and crunch!
Anjou Pear- This beautiful pear has been described as, sweet, juicy and aromatic, with a buttery, creamy white flesh that is slightly gritty’ Pretty good reviews! Fuji Apple- Hard to believe the Fuji has only been on the America market for 30 years. It has risen to a favorite in the USA, with its sweet taste and dense flesh after one bite you will taste why. Granny Smith Apple- They are commonly used in pies and rightfully so they make a delicious pie, but they are amazing sliced and dipped in caramel sauce too! Bananas- Raw, dried, pureed, baked, frozen, any way you eat a banana it’s all good!! Kiwifruit- Not to be confused with the brown flightless bird, our kiwi is sweet and tart. Satsuma Mandarin- The only seedless mandarin and so popular 3 major cities have been named after the Satsuma. Navel Orange -Perfection in citrus, juicy, sweet, tart. Perfect
