Called a Sultana in other parts of the world, the Thompson seedless grape was brought to the United states and named for its introducer, William Thompson. 

This is the most popular variety of grape in The United States.  In fact, Thompson seedless accounts for one-third of the total acreage for grapes in all of California and nearly all of the raisin production.  Their delicate and sweet flavor has brought them attention around the globe and they can be found in Southasian and Persian cooking quite often.  Whether fresh on the vine, dried, or cooked into a dish, the thompson raisin is always a crowd pleaser.
