Asian Pears are unique in that they look like an apple in form but resemble a  pear in texture. They are even more crisp than a typical pear and even when stored cold the texture remains constant. The three types of Asian pear are

• Round or flat fruit yellow green skin
• Round with bronze colored skin
• Pear shaped with russet or green skin

The common pear is native to Europe while the Chinese sand pear is native to the Orient. Scientific name is Pyrus pyifolia.
